What is Respawn?

Respawn is an in-person gaming social club from Intermingle Australia. It’s for people who miss couch co-op, button-mashing tournaments and actually hearing the person you just beat in Mario Kart.

We provide the consoles and screens — PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch — plus a rotation of games like Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Need for Speed, Mortal Kombat, Tekken and more as we go.

The vibe
Social first, sweaty second.

Meet people, chat between matches and only go full competitive when everyone’s keen.

We provide
All the gear.

Consoles, controllers and main games are on us. You just show up and play.

How a typical night works

Open social · once a month (from April).

  • Arrive, check in with the team and pick what you feel like — racing, fighting games or party games.
  • We’ll have screens set up for different titles and a friendly host keeping things rotating.
  • Casual matches early in the night, with optional short brackets or mini-tournaments later on.

Skill level: totally fine if you’ve never touched Smash or haven’t played since PS2.

Who it’s for: internationals, locals and anyone who prefers real humans over random online lobbies.

Monthly structure
  • 1st Week – Respawn Checkpoint Camp — a social event for gamers where you have access to arcades, darts, pool tables and more.
  • 2nd Week – Respawn Gamers Citadel — members have access to Nintendo and PlayStation emulators. Board game players have a large long table to use.
  • 3rd Week – Respawn Gamers Citadel — members have access to Nintendo and PlayStation emulators. Board game players have a large long table to use.
  • 4th Week – Respawn Demo Tournament — we pick a game for a competitive tournament that is managed through Challonge. The top 3 winners receive prizes.

Consoles & games

We’ll start with a focused line-up and keep adding more titles and formats over time. Expect a mix of light chaos, friendly rivalries and at least one person yelling “no blue shells”.

Consoles on rotation
PlayStation

Fighters, racers and party titles. Great for Mortal Kombat, Tekken and co-op games.

Xbox

More racing, sports and arcade-style games as the club grows.

Nintendo Switch

Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros and other four-player chaos games.

Launch line-up (subject to change)
  • Mario Kart — classic couch chaos.
  • Super Smash Bros — 1v1s, 2v2s and four-player mayhem.
  • Need for Speed — racers and drifters welcome.
  • Mortal Kombat — for the finish-him crowd.
  • Tekken — button-mashers and frame-data nerds both invited.

We’ll keep adding more games over time — so if there’s a title you love, you’ll have a chance to suggest it at future events.

Classic PC & retro options (in testing)

  • Cat Mario & Icy Tower
  • Jazz Jackrabbit
  • Worms Party
  • Warcraft III (DOTA, Hero Siege & other custom maps)
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! (Joey the Passion, Kaiba the Revenge, Yugi the Destiny)

These are bonus setups we’re experimenting with — availability may change each event depending on hardware and how well things behave on the night.

Launching April

Be there for the first Respawn night.

The first few events will help shape how Respawn evolves — which games stay, what tournaments we run and how often we meet.

We’ll announce the exact date, venue and ticket link on our socials and event page once they’re locked in.

FAQ

Do I need to bring my own console or controllers?

No. We provide the PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch setups plus controllers. If you have a favourite controller you absolutely love, you can bring it, but it’s not required.

I’m not very good at games, is it still for me?

Yes. Respawn is built as a social event first. We’ll have casual matches, beginner-friendly rounds and only ramp up the difficulty if everyone in the group wants to go hard.

How often does Respawn run?

We’re starting with a once-a-month open social from April. If there’s enough demand, we’ll add more regular nights and themed tournaments.

Do I have to pre-register for games?

For launch events, you’ll just grab a ticket for the night and then choose what to play once you’re there. We’ll introduce online sign-ups for specific tournaments later on if needed.

What’s the age range like?

Mostly 20s and 30s — a mix of students, workers and long-time gamers. As with all Intermingle events, respect and good behaviour are non-negotiable.
